Accepting our children as they are is a step toward ridding ourselves of the constant parent-child struggle.
The goal, or one of them at least, of our parenting journey is to achieve the parent-child relationship you ultimately desire. The key is learning to approach your distressing parent-child situation in a different way and from a completely new perspective.
Fighting a never-ending battle with your child doesn’t change your child, nor does it win the war. It just prolongs it…and destroys the parent-child relationship.
Accept your child as they are. Be gentle with yourself.
What if you changed your approach, left the battlefield, lived your life freely, and gave yourself and your child permission to be fully and completely known and loved right where you both are? What if?
