Frequently Asked Questions
Questions About Services
Parent Coaching vs. Therapy
-
A: Therapy is a therapeutic relationship between a psychologist/therapist and a client. The goal is to address psychological or medical conditions, create a treatment plan, and reach specific therapeutic goals. Parent coaching involves receiving education and support specific to parenting a child of any age. Therapy can be done in the office or online as long as the client lives in the state of Texas. Insurance can be used for therapy. Insurance cannot be used for parent coaching. Parent coaching can be completed in the office (on a limited basis), in the home, or online.

A: We can assist parents who have kids of all ages, from babies to teenagers. We can help with potty training, tantrums, sleep, anxiety, ADHD, sibling rivalry, school concerns, feeding issues, parent-child issues, and medical concerns. If you have another concern, just ask. We might be able to help with that too.
-
A: Parent coaching works best when both parents/partners are on board. When kids see their parents united together, results are significantly more positive. Healthy couples have healthier kids. Regulated parents have more regulated kids. However, if you are ready and your partner is not, we can still help. Dr. Lockhart actually specializes in helping couples who are on different pages.
-
A: We can definitely see you. Although we are primarily pediatric and child psychologists and licensed counselors, we also love seeing adults for therapy. You can see Dr. Lockhart, Mrs. Melvia, or Brogran for therapy.
In-Home Behavior Consultations
-
A: In-home behavior consultation is best for families who have concerns that are specific to the home and the parents. For example, if your child is very well behaved at school and has a hard time managing themselves at home, Mrs. Kimberly might be a good choice for you. If your child is respectful with other adults and peers, but has a hard time getting along with you and their siblings, an in-home behavior consultation might be helpful for you. If you are having concerns with tantrums, bedtime routines, meltdowns, anger, and hyper kids, an in-home consultation could be very helpful. Mrs. Kimberly Rodriguez is part of our team and can come to you. She will come to your home and work around your schedule.
-
A: Give Kimberly Rodriguez a call directly at 210-802-9672 or by email at anewdaycoach@gmail.com.

Questions About Our Practice
Your Team
-
A: Great question! Dr. Lockhart is the President/Owner. Our Office Assistant is an employee. Everyone else is an Associate of the practice. That means, the team members and clinicians are independent contractors and are their own boss. This is why each individual has their own phone number and email address. Once you establish an appointment with a provider, all appointments and schedule changes go through that person directly. If you have a concern about a team member, please speak to that person directly. Dr. Lockhart is only the boss of herself and the Office Assistant. However, if you do have a concern or a complaint, Dr. Lockhart wants to hear from you. Please contact her at 210-816-4149 and the Office Assistant will be sure you connect with her.
-
A: Please speak with the team member first to resolve your concern. If you remain dissatisfied, Dr. Lockhart would really like to hear from you. Although we know you can easily give us a negative review online, we would prefer to help you resolve your concerns directly. Please allow us the courtesy to make things right. Thank you.
-
A: If your child is under the age of 18, you can request for records by submitting a Release of Authorization and simply write “Release to self”. You can obtain this form via our site. This is often needed when you switch providers outside the practice or need another provider or physician to receive information about your child.
A: If your child is over the age of 18, your child/young adult must sign the release of records request themselves. As the parent, you are not ethically or legally authorized to receive mental health records for an individual over the age of 18.
Billing Issues
-
A: All clients are encouraged to contact their insurance provider directly in order to clarify their benefits. It is ultimately your responsibility to know what your plan does and does not cover. Most insurance plans will cover mental health services differently compared to medical and dental services.
-
A: You can contact your insurance provider to learn more about your specific plan on behavioral health. Many plans see therapy and psychological testing differently. For example, under your plan if you normally have a low or zero copay for therapy, you might have to pay and/or meet a deductible for testing.
-
A: Please contact Arjumand (our Medical Biller) directly at 630-200-7728 or ayameen@aybilling.com. She is available Monday to Friday and will typically respond to you within the hour.
Appointments
-
A: 1st step: You will contact the provider you would like to see directly or call our main line if you’re unsure. 2nd step: You will be screened on the phone to determine your concerns and to establish the provider who would be the best fit for you and your family (this might be completed at the time of your call or scheduled within 24 hours with a provider). 3rd step: If we determine we can help you, you will be scheduled with a provider. We do this by getting your basic Demographic information (including your insurance information and credit card number). All appointments must have a valid credit card on file in order to be booked and confirmed. 4th step: You are scheduled with a provider, typically within 2 weeks, if not sooner. 5th step: You will receive an email, which includes several documents for you to complete online prior to your initial intake appointment. 6th step: You will sign and send in the Credit Card Authorization form within 24 hours of making your initial appointment. 7th step: Complete the forms prior to your appointment.
-
A: If you need to cancel or re-schedule your appointment, kindly allow 48 hours (2 business days - Mon-Fri only) notice by contacting your provider directly by phone or email.
-
A: You will be charged a $145 late cancellation fee (or full fee for coaching sessions) if you cancel less than 48 hours before your scheduled appointment. You will be charged a $145 no show fee (or full fee for coaching sessions) if you no show for your appointment. If you no show/no call, you will not be permitted to make another appointment until you make contact with your provider.
-
A: Your appointment time will be held up to 15 minutes. Your provider will attempt to contact you if you are not present or logged in at the time of your appointment. After 15 minutes, your appointment will be considered a no show. You will be charged a late cancellation/no show fee.
-
A: At A New Day, we do not currently offer psychological or educational testing. However, we would be happy to help you connect with another provider who offers that service. Call us at 210-816-4149.
Other Questions
-
A: We would need a copy of the divorce decree. You can upload this directly onto your Client Portal prior to your appointment. The decree must state that you are legally authorized to seek out and consent to treatment (therapy) for your child or that both parents are aware. Based on the decree, our providers may need to contact the other parent and receive authorization for services.
-
A: We do not treat individuals with substance/alcohol use or abuse disorders, eating disorders, chronically suicidal, bipolar disorder, parents who want an instant fix, unmotivated parents, high conflict families, or forensic evaluations. If you are seeking out a psychologist who can make a determination about custody or placement, please seek out a forensic psychologist. We do not provide that service.
-
A: It sounds like you need a psychiatrist or pediatrician. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (M.D.) who prescribes and manages medication. A psychologist is a doctor of philosophy (PhD) or doctor of psychology (PsyD) who provides therapy. An licensed professional counselor (LPC) is a Master’s level therapist who provides therapy services. At A New Day, we have a psychologist and LPCs, but do not currently have a psychiatrist or medical doctor on our team. We cannot prescribe or manage your child's medication at this time. Since our team continues to grow, this option might be available in the near future.
